You broke a rule. Now what?

Every funded trader I know has done it. You get caught up in a volatile session, revenge trade after a loss, and before you check the dashboard, you've blown through your max daily loss. The account is flagged. The evaluation is over. You feel like you just wasted weeks of work.

I get it. It sucks. But here's the truth nobody tells you. Rule violations are part of the learning process. The question isn't whether you'll break a rule. It's whether you'll learn from it and get back in the game.

Let me walk you through exactly what happens when you break a rule, how resets work, and how to make sure it doesn't happen again.

THE MOST COMMON RULE VIOLATIONS IN FUNDED ACCOUNTS

Max drawdown breach. This is the big one. You lose more than the program allows. On a 2-Step account, that's 8% max loss overall and 4% max daily loss. On a Rapid account, it's 4% max loss and 3% daily. Exceed either and the account is breached.

Max daily loss hit. You lose 4% of your account in a single day on a 2-Step program. That's $4,000 on a $100K account. It happens fast. One bad news event, one slippage on a wide spread, and you're done for the day regardless of what you did yesterday.

Trading outside allowed hours or instruments. Some programs restrict trading during news events or on specific pairs. If your program allows only forex majors and you trade crypto or indices, that's a violation. Check your program rules before you place the trade.

Hedging or arbitrage strategies. Most prop firms prohibit hedging across accounts and latency arbitrage. These are risk management protections, not arbitrary restrictions. Violating them gets your account flagged immediately.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BREACH

The system detects the violation automatically. Your account status changes from active to breached. You can't open new trades. Any open positions are closed at market.

Then you have options. Most firms, including SFX Funded, offer a discounted account reset. You don't pay the full evaluation fee again. You pay a reduced reset fee and start the evaluation fresh. Your trading history from the breached account is available for review so you can analyze what went wrong.

Some firms offer a free first reset or a reduced rate for repeat traders. At SFX Funded, reset fees are structured to be affordable, because we'd rather see you learn and come back than give up entirely.

The key detail. Resets don't reset your learning. You keep the knowledge of why you breached. That's the real value.

HOW TO BREAK THE CYCLE

Step 1: Don't request a reset immediately. Sit with the breach for 24 hours. Review your trades. Find the exact moment you crossed the line. Was it a risk management failure? Did you ignore your stop loss? Did you trade too large?

Step 2: Fix the specific mistake before you restart. If you breached because you didn't use a stop loss, your reset account gets a hard rule: every trade gets a stop at entry, no exceptions. If you breached because you traded during a news event, your new rule is no trading 30 minutes before or after major news.

Step 3: Reset on a lower account size if needed. A $7.5K 2-Step or $15K Rapid account has smaller dollar loss limits, which means smaller losses when you're still learning. You can scale up after you prove consistency.

Step 4: Trade with the reset as a fresh start, not a punishment. The reset cost is tuition. You paid to learn a lesson that most traders learn by blowing their personal account. That's actually a deal.

HOW PROP FIRM RULES PROTECT YOU

Here's the perspective shift most traders never make. The rules aren't there to stop you from making money. They're there to stop you from losing everything in one trade.

A 4% max daily loss means you can't lose more than 4% of your account in a single day. That's painful when you hit it. But it's also the reason you have a funded account at all. Without that rule, you could blow the whole account in one session.

SFX Funded's rule structure is designed for exactly this. The 8% Phase 1 target on 2-Step, the 5% Phase 2 target, the 4% max daily loss. These numbers are calibrated so that a consistent, disciplined trader can pass them without luck, and an undisciplined trader can't slip through.

YOUR ACCOUNT RESET CHECKLIST

Wait 24 hours before resetting. Analyze the exact breach cause. Create one specific rule fix. Consider dropping to a lower account size. Reset with a clear plan. Trade the plan for 20 sessions before changing anything.

Follow this and your next attempt almost always succeeds.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much does an account reset cost at SFX Funded? Reset fees are discounted compared to the original evaluation fee. The exact amount depends on your program and account size. Contact support for your specific reset price.

Can I reset multiple times? Yes. There's no limit on resets. Each one is an opportunity to fix the mistake that caused the previous breach. We've had traders who reset three times and then went on to become consistent funded traders.

Does my trade history carry over after a reset? Your old account's trade history is available for review. The new evaluation starts fresh, but you can access your breach data to analyze what went wrong.

What happens to my profit split if I breach a funded account? If you breach a funded account (not an evaluation), any pending payouts up to your last valid trading period are honored. The breach ends the current trading period.

Is there a cooldown period after a breach? No. You can reset immediately. But I recommend waiting 24 hours to review and plan before jumping back in.

Turn your reset into a comeback. Start your SFX Funded evaluation and trade with rules that protect your upside.
