Funded Forex Accounts Explained: How They Work and What They Cost

How do funded forex accounts work, and what do they actually cost?

A funded forex account is a trading account where a prop firm provides the capital and you provide the skill. You pay a one-time access fee, pass an evaluation (or skip it), and trade the firm's capital under its rules. You keep most of the profit; the firm carries the financial risk.

The cost question is where explainers go vague, so this one prices it out. At SFX Funded the lowest entry price among the SFX programs is the 2-Step at $39 for a $7,500 account under the current promotion, which works out to $5.20 per $1,000 of account size. There are no monthly fees, and the fee is refunded alongside the fifth successful profit split.

This article covers what a funded forex account is, how the account works end to end, what it costs, who can open one, and the difference between a funded account and a demo account. For the complete family guide, see funded forex.

THE SHORT VERSION

A funded forex account is trading capital provided by a prop firm after you pass its evaluation. You pay a one-time access fee, trade under published rules, and keep most of the profit.

At SFX Funded the lowest entry price among the SFX programs is the 2-Step at $39 for a $7,500 account under the current promotion. There are no monthly fees, rewards are on demand with an average payout time under 8 hours, and the evaluation fee is refunded alongside the fifth successful profit split.

The cost question has one honest answer: compare the fee per $1,000 of account size, not the sticker price. The 2-Step at $39 on $7,500 is $5.20 per $1,000, the cheapest rate in this family.

WHAT A FUNDED FOREX ACCOUNT IS

A funded forex account means trading foreign exchange with capital provided by a proprietary trading firm. You do not deposit your own money as collateral. You pay an access fee, prove you can manage risk, and trade the firm's capital under its rules.

The profit split is the defining feature. At SFX Funded the split runs from 85-100%, so the trader keeps the majority of the profit on capital they did not have to deposit. To be precise about the mechanics: the capital is simulated capital in a simulated trading environment, and rewards are paid on the profits you generate under the program rules.

HOW THE ACCOUNT WORKS END TO END

Every funded forex account runs the same pipeline, whichever firm you choose.

1. The firm publishes its rules and prices. The loss limits, profit target and payout terms are on the page before you pay.

2. You pay a one-time access fee. On SFX programs there are no monthly fees; the fee buys access to the evaluation and, once you pass, the funded account.

3. You pass the evaluation, or skip it. A two-phase evaluation tests you twice, a one-phase test tests you once, and Instant Funding removes the test entirely.

4. You trade the funded account under the rules. The daily loss limit and maximum loss still apply. They keep the account alive, and they end it if you break them.

5. You request payouts. On SFX, rewards are on demand with an average payout time under 8 hours, and eligible requests are guaranteed within 48 hours or SFX adds $1,000, subject to the published guarantee terms.

6. The fee can come back. The evaluation fee is refunded alongside the fifth successful profit split.

That is the full model. The deep dive on the mechanics, including how the incentives line up for both sides, is in the article on how prop firms work.

Price per $1,000 is the honest comparator across account sizes. The 2-Step at $39 on $7,500 is $5.20 per $1,000; the Rapid at $79 on $15,000 is $5.27 per $1,000; the Instant at $54 on $5,000 is $10.80 per $1,000. A "cheap" entry fee on a large account can cost more per dollar of capital than a higher fee on a small account. Compare the ratio, not the sticker price.

And the price comparison is half the deal. The fee buys access, and the rules decide whether that access ever pays out. Most traders price the account by the fee and meet the rules after they have paid. That is the expensive way to learn them.

SFX has paid more than $3 million in rewards to 32,000+ traders across 130+ countries, with an average payout of $1,132. The rules were published before any of those traders paid, and they are published before you do, on the SFX Funded reviews page.

THE FUNDING PROGRAMS BEHIND THE ACCOUNTS

SFX runs three funding programs, and each one funds a different style of trader.

The 2-Step is the standard route: two phases with a profit target in each phase and a fixed daily loss limit. It suits traders who want to prove they can repeat their edge across two checkpoints.

The Rapid is one phase with a single profit target and no minimum trading days in the evaluation. If your edge shows up fast, you can pass it in a day. The rapid challenge page carries the full set.

Instant Funding removes the evaluation entirely. No profit target, no phases, and you trade inside the published loss limits from day one. See the instant funding page for the full program details.

All three share the same rulebook: no time limits, rewards on demand, the profit split, and the 48-hour payout guarantee.

WHO CAN OPEN ONE

SFX Funded is open to traders across 130+ countries, and the same programs, rules and payout terms apply to every trader. That includes UK traders: the account you open from the UK is the same account, at the same prices, under the same guarantee.

Funded trading accounts in the UK work the same way they do everywhere else. There is no UK-only product, because there is no reason for one: the model does not depend on where you sit, only on whether you can trade inside the published rules.

There is no deposit to maintain, because there is no deposit. The account is funded by the firm, and the trader's risk is capped at the access fee.

FUNDED ACCOUNT VS DEMO ACCOUNT

The term "funded demo account" confuses a lot of newcomers, and the confusion is fair. The trading capital on a funded account is simulated capital in a simulated trading environment. The difference from a retail demo account is the stakes and the payout.

A retail demo account is practice money with no payout and no rules. A funded account is simulated capital with real conditions: loss limits, a profit split, and rewards paid on the profits you generate. The simulation is how the firm can carry the market risk; the rules and the payouts are what make it a funded account, not a demo.

THE COST OF BREAKING A RULE

Every funded forex account has limits, and they are the point. On the 2-Step the daily loss limit is 4%, which is $300 on the $7,500 entry, and the maximum loss is 8%, which is $600. The numbers are small because the risk is defined: a funded account cannot lose more than a published amount, and neither can you.

Compare that to a retail account, where the worst case is the whole balance. The limits are not the annoying part of funded forex; they are the reason the model works.

Eligible reward requests are processed within 48 hours, or SFX adds $1,000 to the payout, subject to the published guarantee terms.
